China: Two Killed by Floods and Landslides

Chinese state television "CCTV" reported today, Saturday, that "landslides and floods in the city of Xi'an in northwestern China have resulted in the deaths of two individuals and the disappearance of 16 others." It clarified that "the floods swept away two houses in a village in Xi'an, while infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and power supply facilities sustained damages." Additionally, it stated that "search and rescue teams have been dispatched to the area." The television noted that "the Qinling Mountains in Xi'an will continue to face harsh weather conditions, which will lead to soil erosion and potentially more landslides." It also mentioned that "the operation of some trains has been halted in the capital Beijing and in Harbin, northeastern China, due to heavy rain and strong winds."

Chinese news agency "Xinhua" reported today, Saturday, that in Guangxi, southwestern China, heavy rainfall on Friday caused flooding in the city of Nanning, forcing commuters during peak hours to navigate vehicles and motorcycles through waterlogged streets. Local authorities set up barriers to allow for water drainage on some roads, and the city deployed nearly 3,900 police officers to assist. Xinhua also reported that flooding damaged a road in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Thursday, trapping several individuals.
