The State Security Directorate stated in a statement that "as part of its efforts to combat money smuggling abroad, and as a result of investigations and inquiries, a patrol from the Marjayoun-Hasbaya office of the Nabatieh regional directorate arrested a gang, all members of which are Syrians: (Y. M.), (M. A.), (S. J.), (M. J.), and (S. A.). They were operating between Baalbek and the South in collecting money from various areas within the Marjayoun region and were transferring it illegally from Lebanon to some Arab and European countries. Monetary amounts prepared for smuggling were seized from them. Their operational location in the Bar Elias area of Baalbek has been sealed with red tape after receiving the approval of the competent judiciary."
