Fiad: "Total" Will Rent Space at the Port of Beirut

Fiad:

Energy Minister Walid Fiad of the caretaker government pointed out that "there is a space at the Port of Beirut that Total will contract with the owner of this space, which is the Port of Beirut, to rent it for providing logistical services for the drilling rig." Fiad noted that "at the drilling site in Block No. 4, they did not find commercial quantities, but this does not mean that hope is lost for this block. However, there are certain criteria that are directly related to the drilling depth, and there may be a return to it." He added, "The reports I received indicate that the drilling work will take 90 days, and before the end of this period, a preliminary picture will emerge about the existence of commercial quantities or not." He continued, "I do not find that what is happening in the south threatens the strategic situation that we have reached in Lebanon, the demarcation has occurred, and there is a need for the other party to export and for the international community, led by Washington, to have alternative solutions for gas." Fiad considered that "the circumstances allowed Lebanon to complete this demarcation, which established stability in terms of security and commitments on the economic level from several countries." Regarding the electricity issue, Fiad stated: "The electricity plan lays down the correct foundations for Lebanon to have the highest number of electricity hours at the lowest cost, ensuring continuity in supply."
