British royal expert Tom Quinn warned that King Charles' cancer diagnosis may be more serious than previously thought. According to reports, "King Charles has begun working on his succession plan, raising concerns that his cancer diagnosis may be 'more serious than we believed'." Earlier this month, Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis after being hospitalized for a separate issue related to prostate enlargement. The specific type of cancer has not been disclosed to the public, but it has been reported that it was detected early and that the king has been undergoing "regular treatments" since then.
However, this issue is said to have prompted the king to formalize his succession plans earlier than originally intended, ensuring that Prince William is prepared to ascend the throne. Tom Quinn stated to "The Mirror": "Charles is also aware that William, as the future king, is at the heart of the succession planning taking place now." He added, "Officials assumed that Charles would remain healthy at least until the end of the year."
The newspaper clarified that the succession planning is highly confidential and that no one trusts Harry to be part of it simply because if he feels in any way offended or does not receive what he believes he deserves, he will go straight to the media. Prince Harry's book "Spare" caused significant friction within the royal family after its release in January 2023, where the Duke of Sussex made a series of shocking claims about his family members and criticized his father and brother harshly.
Quinn's statements come after Harry recently claimed he was willing to return to the royal family on a "temporary" basis to assist his father during his treatment. The Duke of Sussex also confirmed he plans to take some trips to the UK shortly after visiting his father earlier this month. "The Mirror" noted that reconciliation for Prince Harry is possible, but is likely to happen only if his father personally requests it. Under the current succession plans, Harry is fifth in line for the throne, following Prince William, with William's children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis next in line.
