Saudi pilot Mohammed Al Sheiban revealed today how the collision avoidance system saved a Qatari and an Ethiopian aircraft from a potential collision at an altitude of 39,000 feet. Thanks to God and the TCAS system, an urgent warning was issued within the cockpit of the Qatari aircraft to descend to a lower altitude to avoid a possible collision with an Ethiopian aircraft yesterday, following incorrect instructions from the air traffic controller in Mogadishu directing the Qatari aircraft to climb to 40,000 feet.
On his "X" account, Captain Al Sheiban stated that the collision was avoided thanks to God and the TCAS system, which issued an urgent warning in the cockpit of the Qatari Boeing 787 to descend. This was necessary to avoid a potential collision with an Ethiopian A350 aircraft, which was flying at an altitude of 39,000 feet in the opposite direction of the Qatari aircraft. The incident occurred while both planes were flying over the Gulf of Aden near Somalia due to an error from an air traffic controller in Somalia. The Saudi pilot also shared a video showing the moment the two aircraft came close to each other, along with a recording of the conversations that took place at that moment.
