The U.S. Department of Defense, "the Pentagon," confirmed that "our concerns about the tensions between Lebanon and Israel stem from the possibility of a miscalculation that could ignite a wider conflict that no one desires." The department noted that "what we would like to see in Gaza is a ceasefire so that we can restore calm and address the humanitarian situation," adding, "no date has been set for the restoration of the maritime dock, and we have stated all along that it is temporary."
