Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Adel Al-Jubeir, announced that the Kingdom has allocated $2.5 billion to the secretariat of the Middle East Green Initiative. During the National Afforestation Forum, he stated that the Kingdom is part of the international community, and restoring lands and improving quality of life are crucial interests to avoid security escalation. The Middle East Green Initiative is a regional initiative led by Saudi Arabia aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change in the region and working together to achieve global climate action goals.

By expanding regional cooperation and establishing infrastructure capable of reducing emissions and protecting the environment, the Middle East Green Initiative can achieve significant success in global efforts to combat climate change while providing long-term economic opportunities for the region. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced in November 2022 that the Kingdom intends to form and host the secretariat of the Middle East Green Initiative, with a $2.5 billion allocation to support the initiative's projects and governance activities, aiming to accelerate the implementation of initiatives and achieve the goals of the Middle East Green Initiative.
