"With the Participation of All Countries" - Guterres: To Regulate Artificial Intelligence

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on all countries around the world to regulate artificial intelligence and agree on risk management systems related to it. This statement was made during the summit meeting of the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization" in the Kazakh capital, Astana, where Guterres pointed out that digital technologies pose an existential threat. He continued: "Artificial intelligence has tremendous potential to accelerate sustainable development for the benefit of all, but it exceeds regulation, exacerbates the imbalance of power, increases wealth concentration, undermines human rights, and heightens tensions and divisions. We urgently need full participation from governments working in technology, the scientific community, and civil society to agree on systems for managing the risks of artificial intelligence and monitoring and mitigating the damages caused by it." The Secretary-General emphasized that this process requires participation from all countries, not just wealthy ones, and expressed his readiness for the United Nations to provide a platform for this purpose.
