The Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged the United States not to intervene in maritime disputes between China and its neighbors and to refrain from forming "narrow circles" to deter China in the seas. Today, the Chinese Foreign Ministry released a statement regarding the second round of Sino-American consultations on maritime issues, held via video conference on May 24. The statement noted that "the two sides exchanged views on the maritime situation and related issues, agreeing to maintain dialogue and interaction."
It added, "The United States should not intervene in maritime disputes between China and neighboring countries and should not form narrow circles with the aim of using the sea to oversee China, as this undermines peace and stability in the region." The Chinese side expressed "deep concern over the provocations orchestrated by the United States in the waters surrounding China," urging Washington to "sincerely respect China's sovereignty, interests, and maritime rights."
China also called on the United States to "stop supporting forces advocating for Taiwan's independence," reminding that "the One China principle is the political foundation of Sino-American relations."
