Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri confirmed in an interview with "Asharq Al-Awsat" that he is "proceeding with the topic of extending Army Commander Joseph Aoun’s term without hesitation." Berri reiterates "what he always says, that the government has the right in this matter," stating: "It is the government's duty to resolve the issue, whether by appointing a new army commander or delaying the current commander's retirement. However, if they fail to act, Parliament will fulfill its responsibilities to prevent a vacuum in this sensitive position." He emphasized that he "will not delay for a moment, and they (the government) must act quickly to fulfill their duties," adding that "the parliamentary session is set to take place as scheduled tomorrow, Thursday," firmly denying any knowledge of the "Forces' decision to boycott the session." Regarding scheduling the parliamentary session before the government meeting, Berri clarified that "the extension will be preceded by 17 items on the agenda, and the session may last for several days, giving the government ample opportunity."
