A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Peru on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, with tsunami waves expected along some coastlines. The agency upgraded the earthquake's magnitude shortly after it occurred, 8.8 kilometers from the Arequipa region. It added that the earthquake was at a depth of ten kilometers. After initially noting no threat, the "Pacific Tsunami Warning Center" later warned of potential waves reaching heights of up to three meters "at some coastlines."
