Found Military Secret Documents Hidden in Old Papers Bought for a Dollar

Chinese state media reported today, Thursday, that a military history enthusiast discovered a collection of secret documents related to the Chinese military in a pile of old papers he purchased for less than one dollar. The man notified security units about the documents after realizing their sensitive nature, according to the Associated Press.

Reports did not specify what the documents contained or whether anyone had been arrested, only stating that two individuals involved in used book and magazine trading were interrogated. The buyer, identified only as a retired individual with the surname Zhang, quickly recognized that the documents contained information marked as confidential.

State security agencies in China, controlled by the Communist Party, often make it difficult to ascertain what is considered a state secret. State security has subjected both Chinese and foreign consulting firms operating in the country to investigation for holding information about the economy, which is regarded as public record in other countries.
