The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces announced that "a number of citizens are receiving text messages via WhatsApp from foreign numbers, misleading the citizen into believing that there is an account containing a large sum in the cryptocurrency 'USDT' (1 USDT = 1$). After accessing the account with the username and password provided by the hacker, they are asked to pay an amount of money to free it, only to discover later that the amount and the account are fictitious."
The statement revealed that "the link mentioned in the message aims to withdraw money and information from the victim's device, in preparation for later use in fraudulent activities." The Directorate urged citizens to be vigilant and "not to click on any insecure links to avoid becoming victims of scams."
