Taiwan: More than 200 Earthquakes and Aftershocks in One Day

The Central Weather Bureau in Taiwan recorded at least 218 earthquakes and aftershocks over the past day. The first tremor, measuring 5.5 in magnitude, was recorded on Monday evening, followed by several other quakes, with the largest two measuring 6.0 and 6.3. Authorities have not yet reported any significant damage. These tremors come after weeks of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Taiwan on April 3, resulting in 17 deaths and over 1,100 injuries. According to Taiwan's Central News Agency, citing the disaster response center, the death toll from the April 3 earthquake reached 10, while 1,106 others were injured. Statistics indicate that seismic activity occurs more frequently in Hualien County than in other areas of the island. In February 2018, a devastating 6.5 magnitude earthquake led to the deaths of 16 people and injured 285 others.
