Controversial tech billionaire Elon Musk has taken aim at the messaging app "WhatsApp," warning users about the theft of their conversations. Musk tweeted on the platform "X" that the popular messaging app regularly transfers users' private data every night, noting that some users still believe it is secure. A video shared by Musk in his tweet confirmed that WhatsApp activates users' phone microphones at night, even in their bedrooms, to transmit all this encrypted data to the company's servers.
Opinions on this issue were divided, as many people shared Musk's concerns, while a lot of "X" users and some influential figures in the cryptocurrency realm questioned the validity of these claims. Musk stated, "WhatsApp exports your user data every night. Some people still think it is secure."
Meanwhile, many other users also asked Musk in the comments if he had concrete evidence that WhatsApp was leaking users' personal data, such as photos, calls, text messages, and voice messages. Among them was businessman John Carmack, who has a million followers on "X." Conversely, many supported Musk and shared his concerns. Gabor Gurbak, strategic advisor for Tether and VanEck, questioned Musk's claims, pointing out that all messages on WhatsApp are supposed to be protected by end-to-end encryption.
