Release of Thousands of Inmates in Egypt

Egyptian authorities have released 4,199 inmates from rehabilitation centers across the country, in implementation of Presidential Decree No. 214 of 2024, applicable to those who meet the conditions for amnesty on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. Since the issuance of the decree, the prison sector has reviewed the status of inmates eligible for sentence reduction. The Ministry of Interior held Eid al-Adha prayer ceremonies at the rehabilitation centers for the inmates, which were attended by several Christian clergy to join the celebration and extend congratulations, reflecting "the solidarity and cohesion among the different segments of the Egyptian people."
