Military Retirees Committees: For a Unified Salary Scale

The committees of retired military personnel and ranks have called in a statement for the President of the Parliament, political bloc leaders, members of parliament, the Prime Minister, and ministers to "develop a plan to review the salary scale based on the exchange rate of the dollar for all public sector employees, both civilians and military, in active service and retirement." They questioned, "Is it acceptable for private sector salaries to exceed $1,200, which is their right, while public sector salaries range between $240 and $400? Is this justice, law, and legitimacy? Oh leaders of the nation, do you not read at the entrances of the courts of justice that justice is the foundation of kingship?"

They called for the "immediate cessation of the farce known as social assistance, attendance allowances, and other similar compensations, and to move towards a unified salary scale," rejecting entirely the "destruction of the most important sector in Lebanon, which is security; a country without security and justice has no life or economy." The committees demanded the "immediate adjustment of end-of-service compensation for the public sector, which is still calculated at an exchange rate of 1,500 LBP, adjustment of university and school aid to revert to previous levels, and 100% coverage of medical expenses, while treating military personnel in service and retirement with respect by private hospitals and not imposing any additional charges on them."

They also urged "all members of parliament, ministers, and leaders to take these demands with the utmost seriousness, to stand with the rights of the public sector, both civilians and military personnel in active service and retirement, and to ensure justice and equality in their salaries, rejecting any humiliation of the members of this sector who dedicated their lives to maintaining security until they became retired."

They warned that "attacking the rights of military and civilian retirees is tantamount to destroying security forces and public institutions and exhausting their personnel," reminding about "the flight of military personnel from all ranks and armed forces due to salary collapse, not to mention the humiliating compensation at the end of service due to the lack of security for the future of security personnel and their families."
