Heat Wave Hits Greece and Turkey

Forecasts indicate that a heat wave will cause temperatures to rise to 45 degrees Celsius in both Greece and Turkey, with meteorologists in both countries describing the temperatures as unusually high for this time of year. The Greek Meteorological Service stated that temperatures in many regions of the country would exceed 40 degrees Celsius and, in some cases, reach 45 degrees starting tomorrow, Tuesday, and in the following days. The Greek Red Cross advised residents to stay out of the sun, close shutters, drink plenty of fluids, and eat light meals. They also urged people to check on friends and family, especially the elderly, to ensure they are in good health. The organization warned against exercising outdoors and added that children should not be left in vehicles during the day.

Meanwhile, meteorologists in Turkey warned of a heat wave sweeping across the west of the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures reaching 45 degrees. Temperatures have risen about 12 degrees above average for this time of year. Experts advised residents not to stay outdoors between 11 AM and 4 PM local time (0800 - 1300 GMT), especially the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses.
