Tony Franjieh: Moving Forward with Anti-Corruption Laws

The head of the "Independent National Bloc," MP Tony Franjieh, met with the Minister of Finance in the caretaker government, Youssef Khalil. The meeting aimed to emphasize the "necessity of proceeding with the application of the law that was approved as urgent based on MP Franjieh's proposal, concerning the obligation of all beneficiaries of government support in US dollars or its equivalent in other foreign currencies to undergo financial forensic auditing, starting from October 17, 2019, after lifting banking secrecy about them," according to a statement from Franjieh's media office. During the meeting, MP Franjieh stressed the "importance of advancing laws that combat corruption and initiating the necessary investigations to prevent evasion behind the concept of the passage of time regarding crimes that may have been committed during the support period, especially after the issuance of the report from the Public Relations Unit at the Central Bank of Lebanon, which confirmed that a detailed inventory of all support files was handed over to the relevant authorities."
