Strong Earthquake Hits the Russian Far East

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck the Kamchatka region in the Russian Far East. The branch of the Geophysical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that the quake occurred in the Pacific Ocean off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, east of Russia, at a depth of 52 kilometers below the seabed and 87 kilometers from the village of Ust-Kamchatsk. It noted that no material or human damage was recorded as a result of the earthquake, and there is no tsunami threat in the area.
