Sami Gemayel: We Will Not Adhere to the Rules of a Game That No Longer Exists

The head of the Kataeb Party, MP Sami Gemayel, stated that "we are living in a lawlessness where an armed party is using the state and all available means to control our lives, our future, and the future of our children." He considered the events in Kahaleh as the tipping point, where an armed presence of "Hezbollah" used weapons against peaceful civilians and opened fire on people. During the Kataeb Family Day held in Bakich at the conclusion of the summer camp for student benefit, attended by former President Amin Gemayel, he pointed out that "what happened is a manifestation of Hezbollah's takeover of the state, and our work has shifted from normal political activity to existential and existential struggle, as we feel a structural change is happening in Lebanon." Gemayel emphasized that "we will fight the battle wherever we can, as for us, the time is no longer on Hezbollah's side, and Lebanon no longer resembles us," noting that they "are betting on the factor of time, while the bleeding continues, and we play the traditional game, limiting ourselves to a closed field, while they are comfortable." He confirmed that "we must change the rules of the game and will not comply with the rules of a game that no longer exists, as they use killing, violence, and disruption to paralyze the state and elections."

Gemayel continued, explaining Hezbollah's control over the state, stating: "The government is formed only if Hezbollah controls it; previously, it wanted a blocking third, but today it wants full control of the government." Regarding the presidency, he commented: "There is no president except for Hezbollah to impose the president it wants; if it cannot, it continues to obstruct until it gets who it wants, as happened in 2016." About security, Gemayel noted: "Nothing happens without Hezbollah's approval; it conducts raids without the army or internal security forces, and under various slogans, it is required of the army to cooperate and support Hezbollah's grip on political decisions. Consequently, we are slipping away without realizing it, day by day and year by year, becoming a state under Hezbollah's control."
