Algerian doctors successfully extracted 20 screws and a set of metal wires from a patient's abdomen, which he had swallowed gradually and accidentally due to his psychological disorders. They managed to save his life in an incident that elicited much astonishment. The event took place this week in Skikda Province, eastern Algeria, where the medical team in the surgical operations department of the local hospital performed a rare and unique surgical procedure to remove the screws and wires.
According to the administration of the Abdel Razak Bouhara Hospital in Skikda, "the complex surgical operation took more than 6 full hours, led by Dr. Daaas Amiour Hussein, a specialist in general surgery, accompanied by the medical and paramedical team of the surgical operations department at the hospital." They succeeded in extracting a significant quantity of metal screws, estimated to be 20, in addition to a number of metal wires that remained lodged in the patient's small and large intestines, who had been suffering from psychological disorders before the doctors discovered his condition.
