Title: United Nations Concerns: The Risk of Escalation in Southern Lebanon is Very Real

The United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, issued a joint statement with the head of the "UNIFIL" mission and its Force Commander, General Aroldo Lazaro, congratulating the Lebanese people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. Both parties wished everyone to "enjoy sympathy, harmony, and most importantly, peace." The statement noted that "the risk of miscalculation leading to a sudden and wider conflict in southern Lebanon is very real." It added, "We continue to work with the parties and urge all actors to cease fire and commit to working toward a political and diplomatic solution – the only lasting solution."
