Arrest of Man for Targeting British Legislators with Unsolicited Messages

British police announced on Wednesday that they "arrested a man in connection with a campaign targeting British politicians and journalists working in Parliament with unwanted and flirtatious messages." The Metropolitan Police of London stated: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of harassment and committing offenses under the Online Safety Act. He has been detained and remains in custody." They added: "The arrest is related to an investigation being conducted by the Parliamentary Liaison and Investigation team at the Metropolitan Police following reports of unsolicited messages sent to members of Parliament and others. The investigation is ongoing." One legislator from the ruling Conservative Party resigned in April after admitting he responded to the messages with intimate pictures and then provided his colleagues' phone numbers.
