Hussein Warns of the Consequences of Attacks on Foreign Interests in Iraq

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed that the Iraqi government is trying to convince other countries and armed groups that link the presence of Western countries in Iraq to the war in Gaza, that the attacks they carry out against foreign interests in Iraq create risks for the country and result in casualties. Hussein also questioned, "What will be the response of the international coalition?" considering that the current situation poses major challenges for everyone. He believed that cooperation with the Kurdistan Region is essential to continue dialogue and discussions among Kurdish parties, particularly the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, to find solutions that serve Iraq's interests. This announcement came after the increase in attacks on American forces triggered anger among some within the U.S. Department of Defense. Some frustrated officials in the Pentagon considered that the current strategy to confront Iranian proxies is neither coherent nor effective. They noted that the limited airstrikes approved by President Joe Biden to respond to these attacks have failed to stop them and discourage the Iranian-backed militia, according to the Washington Post.
