Italian newspapers are extensively covering the concerns of residents regarding the phenomenon of rat proliferation throughout Rome, particularly in luxury hotel areas and tourist spots. There is a true invasion of rats that can even be observed during the daytime, a situation not seen in Rome since World War II. One pub owner near the famous Trevi Fountain noted that "rats sometimes pass between the feet of tourists who come to enjoy the beautiful Trevi Fountain." The situation threatens the living conditions of residents, and the problem is worsening with the arrival of summer, as rising temperatures and accumulating waste increase the number of rats that breed rapidly. In the Tiburtino neighborhood near Largo Beltramelli, the situation appears even more tragic, as residents are posting images and videos on social media of the widespread garbage and the large number of rats. Rats are also abundant along the banks of the Tiber River.
