As the presidential election approaches, the military advisor to the Iranian leader addressed the Iranian people, advising them to elect a president "who does not speak against the leader," but rather "a president who sees himself as the second person." Military advisor Major General Rahim Safavi stated at the ninth conference of "Narrating Memories of the Iran-Iraq War," "We hope that the Iranian people elect a president who will assume national authority, preserve national unity for Iran, address Iran's problems, and achieve national unity." He also noted, "We have a head of state and a head of government, and we distinguish between the two," pointing out that "the head of the executive should consider himself the second person." He continued, "The president should prevent societal polarization; the president should not create a binary divide."
