Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya announced today, Thursday, that most of the victims of the fire that broke out in a building housing foreign workers are of Indian nationality, with the final toll reaching 50 dead. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated in a post on social media platform X late Wednesday that his country is "doing everything possible to assist those affected by this horrific fire tragedy." Modi's office announced that the families of the victims will receive 200,000 rupees (2,400 dollars). Philippine officials reported that three Filipinos are among the dead due to the fire, which charred the exterior of the six-story building that housed 196 workers in southern Kuwait City. Kuwaiti officials have arrested the building owner for potential negligence and have threatened to close any complexes that violate safety regulations. This fire is considered one of the worst fires witnessed in Kuwait, which borders Iraq and Saudi Arabia and contains about seven percent of the world's oil reserves, according to Agence France-Presse.
