Fiad Discusses Renewable Energy Investment Opportunities in Lebanon in Berlin

Minister of Energy and Water in the caretaker government, Walid Fiad, participated in the "Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue" which commenced yesterday in the German capital, Berlin, and will last until March 29. This event was organized at the joint invitation of German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habeck, with the participation of Lebanon's Ambassador to Berlin, Mustafa Adib.

The conference was inaugurated on the first day by the German Foreign Minister and on the second day by Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck, with the participation of the President of Kenya and a wide number of energy and foreign ministers, alongside stakeholders from the private energy sector and related policies. The aim of the conference, in which Fiad took part in a discussion session, is to address the challenges facing the world in the energy sector and explore the transition to more sustainable and renewable energy sources, especially with the international shift towards a green future and the use of better international practices in this field.

It also provided an opportunity for Fiad to exchange experiences regarding a safe and environmentally responsible global energy transition and to present the challenges facing Lebanon’s energy sector, including opportunities for cooperation with Lebanon's international partners in the field of renewable energy.

Fiad held bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the conference with the German State Minister at the Foreign Office for Climate Change, Jennifer Morgan; the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President Sultan Al Jaber; Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al Busaidi; and the Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency, Francesco La Camera. Furthermore, Fiad visited the headquarters of the German company "Siemens Energy" and held a meeting with the Chairman Christian Bruch, in the presence of Ambassador Adib, Deputy Ambassador Hamza Jamoul, and Economic Attaché Abdo Madlaj.

This event is considered one of the largest international forums addressing energy and climate transition issues, featuring over 2,000 participants from more than 90 countries, including 50 ministers or state secretaries of energy and foreign affairs, as well as more than 100 high-ranking speakers.
