Saudi Space Agency Launches

The Saudi Space Agency launched the "Madaak" competition today, Sunday, titled "Space is Your Journey," aimed at enriching the Arab contribution to space sciences for students across the Arab world. This initiative is in collaboration with the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation "Misk" and the "Ilmi" Center for Science and Innovation, one of Misk's affiliated entities. The competition targets students aged between 6 to 18 years and includes three tracks: arts, plants, and engineering.

The competition is overseen by Saudi astronaut Rayana Barnawi, the first Muslim Arab woman in space, who conducted 14 experiments aboard the International Space Station. Winning entries are expected to be sent to the International Space Station in the fourth quarter of 2024, opening new horizons for students to see their creations reach for the sky. The competition is expected to positively impact students by enhancing their contributions to space fields and sciences, promoting a culture of research and innovation, and encouraging generations to engage in scientific domains, while supporting talented and creative individuals.

The agency has invited all students across the Arab world to register their entries through the application portal on the Saudi Space Agency's website, noting that registration will commence today and continue until April 30, 2024. The website includes details about the three tracks, age groups for each track, and the submission process.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Tamimi, CEO of the Saudi Space Agency, stated that the competition is directed towards students in the Arab world, exploring new dimensions in space sciences and enhancing their scientific and innovative skills to enrich the space arena with pioneering contributions. He urged future scientists and talents in the Arab world to seize this opportunity to shape the future of space with the eyes of its youth, emphasizing that the Kingdom, based on its leadership in the space field, reaffirms its constant commitment to stimulating creativity and excellence in space at both regional and international levels.

For her part, astronaut Rayana Barnawi emphasized that this competition represents a unique opportunity for students in the Arab world to participate in the journey of discovery and innovation in the field of space sciences and to enrich it with Arab contributions. She pointed out that it is not just a challenge, but an opportunity to broaden the horizons of ambitious young generations and stimulate their creative thinking and effective participation in unique experiences.
