Argentine security forces announced today, Wednesday, that they arrested 5 individuals in the capital Buenos Aires, consisting of 3 Syrians and 2 Lebanese, on suspicion of planning a "hostile attack," according to a statement they issued. The statement indicated that the three Syrians arrived in the country separately and were "planning to carry out a hostile attack." One of them was found with Venezuelan and Colombian passports. Preliminary investigations revealed that they intended to "deliver a suspicious package weighing 35 kilograms, sourced from Yemen," to a location where a suspect resides in a hotel. The arrests of the five, about whom the police shared no information regarding the Lebanese, occur at a time when Argentina is hosting the fifteenth edition of the "Jewish Olympic Games" in the capital, known in English as the World Maccabiah Games, a regional sporting event typically held under the auspices and supervision of the International Olympic Committee and international sports federations, featuring over 4,000 Jewish athletes from 22 countries.
