Sisi: I Nominate Myself for the Upcoming Elections to Complete the Dream

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced his candidacy for a new presidential term in the upcoming 2024 presidential elections. In his speech at the conclusion of the "Tale of a Nation" conference, which lasted three days in the new administrative capital being built in the desert outside Cairo, Sisi stated, "Just as I answered the call of the Egyptians before, I respond today to their call once again, and I have decided to nominate myself to complete the dream in a new presidential term. I promise you, with God's permission, that it will be an extension of our joint efforts for Egypt and its people." He added, "We are on the brink of our new republic that seeks to continue the state's existence and rebuild it on the foundations of modernity and democracy."

Thousands of Egyptians gathered in various squares across the republic on Monday evening, raising banners supporting President Sisi, as well as Egyptian flags and pictures of the president, calling for him to run in the upcoming elections. It had been widely anticipated that Sisi, a former army leader who has been in power since 2014, would announce his candidacy for a third term following constitutional amendments made four years ago that allow him to remain in office until 2030.
