North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited a major tourist site under construction on the eastern coast of the country, despite the fact that the country still prohibits visits from most foreign tourists. During the tour, Kim discussed preparations for its opening by May 2025, as decided in a ruling party meeting in January. The North Korean leader stated that "a coastal wonderland known to the world as the best tourist resort in North Korea will be successfully built." It is noted that North Korea is seeking to create a major attraction for international visitors, although the project has faced setbacks due to a shortage of construction materials resulting from tightened UN sanctions and restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus.
