Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed today that his country is preparing to join the BRICS group of emerging economies. Anwar stated, "We have made the decision, and we will start the official procedures soon... we are just waiting for the final results from the government in South Africa."
The BRICS group primarily includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, with the name derived from the initial letters of these countries in English. The group began expanding its membership last year as part of its efforts to challenge the global system dominated by Western economies, inviting Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina, and the UAE to join, while more than 40 countries have expressed interest in joining.
