Media outlets affiliated with the Houthi movement in Yemen reported that U.S.-British bombardment targeted the area of Al-Fazah on the coast in Al Hudaydah province in western Yemen on Monday, without providing further details. The United States and Britain have repeatedly carried out airstrikes on Houthi positions aimed at disrupting and weakening the group’s capabilities to endanger freedom of navigation and threaten global trade. Several vessels in the Red Sea have been attacked by the Houthi movement, which claims that these attacks are in response to the Israeli war on Gaza, which erupted on October 7th.
Earlier on Monday, the U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions against ten individuals, entities, and ships alleged to have participated in the "illicit transport" of oil and other goods for the Houthi movement. The Treasury added in a statement that the sanctions included individuals, entities, and ships that transported goods and oil for a network associated with Houthi financier Said Al-Jamal. It reported that the sanctions target maritime shipping, financial facilitators, and several managers and owners of ships, as well as a company involved in falsifying shipping documents. The U.S. Treasury revealed that these new sanctions, which mark the seventh round targeting Said Al-Jamal's network since October 2023, reaffirm the U.S. government's commitment to isolating and disrupting the financing of international terrorist groups like the Houthis.
