The Vice President of the Turkish "Homeland" Party, Hakan Topkurulu, confirmed that international intelligence agencies are orchestrating provocations aimed at preventing a potential meeting between Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad, as well as the normalization of relations between Ankara and Damascus. Topkurulu stated to the "Novosti" agency: "Intelligence agencies from several countries are carrying out provocations targeting the normalization of relations between Ankara and Damascus, particularly regarding the possible meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad."
A couple of days ago, President Erdogan indicated that Ankara would invite President Assad at any moment, expressing hope for a return to the previous state of Turkish-Syrian relations. Erdogan remarked: "Russian President Vladimir Putin has an approach regarding our meeting with Assad in Turkey, and the Iraqi Prime Minister has an approach as well. We are talking about mediation, so what is preventing it with our neighbor?" Days earlier, President Assad, during a meeting with Russian President's Special Envoy Alexander Lavrentiev, affirmed Syria's openness to all initiatives related to the relationship between Syria and Turkey, based on Syria's sovereignty over its entire territory and the fight against all forms of terrorism and its organizations.
