Passengers on China Eastern Airlines flight 2754 experienced panic after a woman accidentally opened the emergency exit, mistakenly thinking it was the restroom. The Chinese passenger was flying on the plane for the first time and went to the back of the aircraft, where she opened the emergency exit while searching for the restroom, according to the South China Morning Post.
This caused chaos and alarm on board, resulting in the evacuation of passengers and the cancellation of the flight, which was set to travel from Chuzhou in eastern China to Chengdu in the southwest.
Affected passengers were taken to a hotel and received compensation of 400 yuan (approximately $55 USD) each. The woman was also taken to the hotel for police questioning. Depending on the aircraft model, the cost to activate the emergency exit door ranges from 100,000 to 200,000 yuan (about $28,000 USD).
