The Saudi Football Federation revealed the mechanism for the participation of Roshan Saudi League clubs in Asian competitions for the upcoming 2024-2025 season. This comes after the continental federation requested member associations to specify the appropriate mechanism for allocating designated spots for each country, which was formally announced by the Saudi Federation.
The champion of the Roshan Saudi Professional League and the runner-up, as well as the team in third place for the current season (2023-2024), will qualify for the Elite Championship for the next season (2024-2025). The Board of Directors of the Saudi Football Federation has adopted the mechanism for the participation of Saudi clubs in Asian Federation tournaments for the upcoming sports season (2024-2025).
Additionally, the winner of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup will qualify for the AFC Champions League "2." If the champion is one of the top three clubs in the league, the fourth-placed team in the Roshan League will be eligible to participate in the AFC Champions League 2.
Earlier, the Asian Football Confederation approved the structure of its new competitions, with the Elite Championship being the highest level for clubs in Asia, featuring the best 24 teams. The second-tier competition is named AFC Champions League 2, comprising 32 teams, while the third-tier competition is called the Asian Challenge Cup, which includes 20 teams and does not feature Saudi clubs.
Saudi clubs participating in Asia for the 2024-2025 season will have 3 direct slots in the Elite Championship and 1 direct slot in the AFC Champions League 2, which is the maximum allocation due to Saudi Arabia leading the Asian club competitions rankings this season.
