Zamzam Hospital in Alexandria has issued a statement regarding the latest developments in the health condition of Modern Future player Ahmed Refaat, following his fainting during a match against Al-Ittihad Alexandria in the 16th round of the Egyptian Premier League. Refaat suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed during stoppage time at the end of the match. He was transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital due to the cessation of his heart function, prompting the referee to end the match prematurely.
The hospital's official statement detailed, "Player Ahmed Refaat, a member of the Future Club and the Egyptian national team, arrived at the hospital by ambulance, having been in a state of cardiac arrest. Following medical protocols, CPR was performed for more than two hours in the emergency room."
The statement continued: "During CPR, cardiac rhythm disturbances occurred multiple times, requiring electric shocks more than 20 times. Afterward, the patient was placed on a ventilator. Once stabilized, the patient was transferred to intensive care for further treatment."
The report elaborated that the patient was placed on a ventilator and received medication to manage oxygen levels and to stabilize acidity and carbon dioxide levels. Additionally, he was given blood pressure support medications and heart stimulants to restore blood pressure and circulation to enhance blood flow to the extremities and kidneys. After some stabilization, CT scans were performed on his chest and brain.
It was noted that the brain scan showed no damage, while the chest scan revealed congestion and inflammation resulting from CPR. The patient was subsequently given medications to maintain oxygen levels, reduce carbon dioxide, and treat lung inflammation, along with blood pressure support.
The statement also mentioned that the patient's urine output was low due to kidney impact from the prolonged CPR, leading to the involvement of a kidney specialist. Refaat was also assessed by a cardiologist and a neurologist to evaluate his condition. Necessary blood tests and examinations were conducted to determine the cause of the cardiac arrest.
The hospital concluded, "The patient's condition is currently improved regarding blood pressure; however, he has not fully regained consciousness. The hospital management and medical team are providing the utmost medical care to the player. Thank you for your understanding, and God willing, he will recover."
