Multiple sources have revealed that Elon Musk could receive an advisory role in the White House if former President Donald Trump, the presumed Republican candidate, wins the general election, according to the Wall Street Journal. The newspaper reported on Wednesday, citing individuals familiar with the discussions, that the CEO of Tesla and the former president talked about ways Musk could have "official engagements" regarding policies related to the economy and border security.
The report also stated that Musk, who owns the social media platform X, along with billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, briefed the former president on a plan to invest in a "data-driven" project aimed at preventing voter fraud, according to individuals knowledgeable about the matter. Furthermore, both Peltz and Musk informed Trump about a continuous influence campaign among elite circles that aims to persuade influential American business leaders not to support Biden, Trump's main competitor in the 2024 elections, whom he lost to in 2020.
Musk, who met with Trump last March, talks to the former president several times a month, previously discussing technology, science, and immigration, according to the newspaper’s sources. The Tesla CEO, who stated he would not donate money in the presidential race, instead wants to leverage his influence across various industries to help defeat Biden in November. A close advisor to Trump mentioned that it has been widely reported and evidenced in various ways that many key leaders in the fields of technology and innovation are concerned about the damage inflicted on their industry by Biden's failure to address our economy and his efforts to burden innovators with government bureaucracy and stringent regulations.
The Tesla CEO has not yet endorsed anyone in the race, but he has shared his criticisms of Biden regarding immigration, tariffs, and some other areas in recent months.
