Italian police reported that members of an armed gang ambushed a cash-laden truck in southern Italy and escaped with 3 million euros. The daring robbery occurred on a busy road near the city of Brindisi during peak hours on Thursday morning. The gang members fired shots while attempting to force the cash transport truck to pull over. The perpetrators also set fire to several vehicles to hinder police intervention. A large cloud of black smoke lingered over the scene for hours. Police stated that the thieves, believed to number between eight and ten, managed to flee. No one was injured, but police noted that the five security guards in the truck were left in shock. The cash transport truck was damaged, and at least four other vehicles caught fire. The road was closed in both directions for several hours, causing long traffic jams.
