The Kataeb Political Bureau met today, Tuesday, chaired by the party's leader, MP Samy Gemayel, to review developments related to the serious events unfolding in Gaza and their repercussions on Lebanon. They also listened to several reports on this issue and the situation of the families in the south amidst the deteriorating security conditions.
The Kataeb Party reiterated in a statement its warning against endangering Lebanon and its fate by dragging it into a war in which it has no involvement and cannot bear the burdens or consequences. It believes that all operations originating from southern Lebanon by Lebanese and non-Lebanese factions violate the respect for the country’s sovereignty, reminding of phases they wish to avoid repeating for the sake of the country's security and its citizens, who are fleeing by the tens of thousands in the midst of a dire crisis.
The party considered that the government's refusal to secure Lebanon's borders and to uphold the state's exclusive right to decide on peace and war, as well as to ensure compliance with Resolution 1701, places Lebanon in a precarious position. It sees that officials are treating the events as if faced with a natural disaster beyond their control, lacking any influence over the developments, with no decisions made other than preparing to bear the consequences of the conflict, thus abandoning their natural role in preventing Lebanon from being dragged into the unknown and reinforcing their complete submission to the will of Hezbollah and its regional backer.
The Political Bureau condemned the "barbaric movements" reflected in the protests that occurred in front of some embassies, especially the American embassy in Awkar. It believes that the aim behind this movement was not solidarity with the Palestinian people but rather to cause chaos and disturbances in safe areas, which ended in burning people's livelihoods.
It warned against the recurrence of such actions, urging the security forces to strictly prevent anyone from harming innocent citizens under any pretext, in order to prevent confrontations with the residents that could escalate into dire consequences.
