Axios reported that U.S. Democratic lawmakers stated that President Joe Biden's interview with ABC News did not alleviate growing concerns about his ability to defeat Republican candidate Donald Trump. Axios quoted a Democratic representative saying they will certainly work to increase public pressure as needed to push Biden to withdraw. Another representative remarked that the interview was not reassuring at all and changed nothing, adding that they were shocked by Biden's refusal to acknowledge reality as reflected in opinion polls and his failure to justify his desire to run for a second term.
Democratic Representative Mike Quigley noted that Democratic voters watched the debate between presidential candidates Biden (81) and Trump (78), describing the debate as catastrophic and indicating that some Democrats have stopped supporting President Biden. Quigley explained that Biden is not the candidate with the best chances of defeating Trump and that there are many individuals who could run for the Democratic party instead of Biden. Axios also reported a party leader stating that Biden needs to exit the presidential race in order to regain his credibility.
