Thousands of Egyptians attended the funeral of Dr. Osama Abdul Azim, a professor of the foundations of jurisprudence at the College of Boys Studies in Cairo at Al-Azhar University, in a solemn ceremony. Hundreds gathered at the prayer ground in the Tunisian area of Cairo for the funeral prayer for the deceased, while social media was flooded with messages of condolence. The Al-Azhar scholar passed away after a battle with illness on Monday, and his son Osama posted on his official Facebook page: "The knight has dismounted... he has moved to the mercy and satisfaction of God, my master, the joy of my eyes, and the spirit of my heart." He was mourned by scholars and sheikhs from Al-Azhar and Salafists, who noted that he was one of the most devoted scholars advocating for and adhering to the Sunnah of the Prophet. The funeral reminded activists of the funeral of late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, which took place on October 1, 1970. Nasser's funeral, who passed away on September 28, 1970, was one of the largest funerals in the modern world, with many Arab nations participating and their people taking to the streets at the same time as the funeral in Egypt.
