Hebrew media reported that the Israeli army has withdrawn the Golani Brigade from Gaza due to heavy losses, particularly in the Shuja'iya neighborhood, where it experienced significant defeat. The Golani Brigade, also known as the 1st Brigade in Israel, is an infantry brigade within the Israeli army and is one of the so-called "elite" brigades, established on February 22, 1948, when it was separated from the Givati Brigade, one of the most important and strongest elite brigades in Israel.
**Overview**
The name Golani is derived from the Galilee region, where the brigade's headquarters is located. Its training center is referred to as "Hell Village." The brigade's core consists of students from ultra-Orthodox religious schools and includes three battalions of Merkava-4 tanks, an engineering battalion, two artillery battalions, a paratrooper battalion, an electronic warfare company, and a medical services company. Its emblem features an olive tree against a desert background. This brigade was established by David Ben-Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister.
The brigade has participated in many battles against Arab armies, being the unit that occupied the Sinai Peninsula in the 1956 War and capturing the Golan Heights and West Bank in the 1967 War. It also fought Syrian forces in the 1973 War, where it repelled an unexpected attack by Syria and almost entered the Syrian capital, Damascus, if not for the arrival of the Iraqi Sixth Armored Division.
