She reported it to the police at the time but did not bother to obtain a new passport.
Almost a year later, while attempting to obtain a birth certificate for her child, she discovered that her unknown husband, an Egyptian man named Mustafa, also needed to be present for the process. It remains unclear whether Mustafa found the passport himself or purchased it from someone in the black market. However, according to recent news reports, he used the document to apply for a temporary residence permit in Russia, claiming to be the husband of the Saint Petersburg resident.
After hearing the woman's testimony and confirming that she had reported her passport lost to the police, a Russian court annulled the marriage.
