Explosions were heard in the southern area of Deir Ezzor city due to unknown shelling targeting at least three sites belonging to Iranian-backed militias in the southern Deir Ezzor countryside, coinciding with the flight of unidentified warplanes over the area. Concurrently with the attack, three ambulances rushed from the military hospital in Deir Ezzor to the targeted site, with no reports of casualties so far.
This came just hours after the militias targeted the Conico gas plant base north of Deir Ezzor with drones launched by Iranian-backed groups. Iranian-backed groups resumed their attacks on U.S. bases in Syria after a pause of about a week. The U.S. side has escalated its operations against Iranian-affiliated militias in Deir Ezzor through aerial strikes, using warplanes and drones to target sites, positions, military vehicles, and weapons and ammunition depots in various areas under the militias' control.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that there have been 9 rounds of U.S. airstrikes on Deir Ezzor since the beginning of 2024, targeting 39 sites and objectives belonging to Iranian-affiliated militias, resulting in the death of 34 individuals, comprised of 12 Syrians, 6 from Hezbollah, 6 Iraqis, and 10 from other nationalities, in addition to the death of a fuel tanker driver. The strikes also resulted in 15 others being injured with varying degrees of wounds, alongside significant material losses at the targeted locations.
