Calls to Rescue 6,000 Sudanese Refugees

Twenty-eight Sudanese organizations have called on Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to rescue approximately 6,000 Sudanese refugees stranded in Ethiopian forests. The Sudanese website "Al-Rakubah" reported that since the beginning of May, thousands of Sudanese refugees have fled from the "Kumar" camp on Ethiopia's western border after being attacked by armed groups, subsequently getting trapped in one of the forests under dire humanitarian conditions.

The organizations stated in their declaration that among the six thousand Sudanese refugees are "2,133 children, 1,017 women, 1,917 men, 1,135 patients, and 76 individuals with disabilities." They urged the refugee commission and humanitarian organizations to address the challenges faced by Sudanese refugees, who have spent 22 days in the forest without any form of international and local assistance, as well as voluntary organizations. They noted that the refugees have reached a dead end after most of their food and medicine supplies have run out, asserting that what remains is reserved for children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and critical cases.
