A recent proposed agreement between Israel and Hamas appears to be generating rare optimism in the United States regarding a cessation of hostilities in Gaza. A senior American official stated on Thursday that "Hamas has adopted a significant modification in its stance on the proposed agreement," according to news agency reports. The official considered that "Hamas's response is moving the process forward and may provide the foundation for an agreement regarding hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza."
He added that U.S. President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the draft agreement between Israel and Hamas during a 30-minute phone call. The official noted, "Washington believes there is a great opportunity to reach an agreement regarding the hostages," suggesting that negotiations may take place in Doha with the participation of an American delegation. He clarified that "there is much work to be done regarding the implementation of the agreement," mentioning "pending issues."
