Hezbollah's Fixed Positions on the Presidential File

In a summary provided to "Al-Jumhuria" by sources familiar with Hezbollah's stance on the presidential file, the party's positions are outlined as follows:

First, the party supports a presidential dialogue led by President Nabih Berri, without any prior conditions or commitments. Hezbollah will exercise its full democratic right regarding the election session for the president, whether by attending or not.

Second, Hezbollah has no issue with multiple candidates; this plurality is not the cause for the obstruction of the presidential election. The real issue is that the country is deteriorating, and there is a faction pushing for this decline, having made a public decision to confront the party. This atmosphere does not aid in electing a president, as the constitution states that the president must be chosen and elected through consensus. Evidence of this is that the constitution specifies a minimum of 86 deputies must be present for the session and vote, meaning it sets the rules of democratic engagement within the framework of consensus.

Third, Suleiman Franjieh is the party's candidate. It is known that as soon as Franjieh announced his candidacy, Hezbollah promptly expressed its commitment to support him, as the party desires a president who can uplift the country and navigate the complexities among all Lebanese components, rather than someone who is parachuted in or imported from a political store or any financial institution. The party seeks a president who lives among the people, understands their concerns, the issues of every sect and denomination, and recognizes the red lines that should not be crossed. The ideal candidate should be able to unify and gather people, aware of both common grounds and what might provoke certain factions. Additionally, the candidate must have the capability for regional and international communication and cooperation; all these qualities are found in Suleiman Franjieh, according to Hezbollah.

Fourth, despite the party's commitment to Franjieh, it has shown readiness to reach an agreement with all parties and has invited them to identify their candidate, stating, "Let’s discuss at the dialogue table." However, they are unwilling to engage in dialogue altogether while asking Hezbollah to abandon Franjieh, fully aware that this will not happen.

Fifth, Hezbollah, at all levels, asserts its lack of trust in the international community that sponsors Israel and its crimes since the beginning of the war on Gaza, and it continues to confront the Israeli enemy until its aggression against Gaza ceases. Regardless of the so-called resolution initiatives presented, which all prioritize Israel's interests, any proposals from the international community allied with Israel that consider Lebanon’s interests are met with skepticism from Hezbollah. Therefore, there can be no discussion of any political resolution framework concerning the southern region before the end of the aggression, according to "Al-Jumhuria."
